Al-Najm (The Star)

Translation

Verses 1-30

بِسْمِ اللّهِ الرَّحْمَنِ الرَّحِيمِ

In the name of Allah, the Compassionate, the Merciful.

وَالنَّجْمِ إِذَا هَوَىٰ (1)

By the star when it falls.
[Al Quran ; 53:1]

مَا ضَلَّ صَاحِبُكُمْ وَمَا غَوَىٰ (2)

Your companion has not strayed, nor has he erred.
[Al Quran ; 53:2]

وَمَا يَنْطِقُ عَنِ الْهَوَىٰ (3)

Nor does he speak out of desire.
[Al Quran ; 53:3]

إِنْ هُوَ إِلَّا وَحْيٌ يُوحَىٰ (4)

Indeed, it is only a revelation revealed.
[Al Quran ; 53:4]

عَلَّمَهُ شَدِيدُ الْقُوَىٰ (5)

Taught to him by one intense in strength (Jebril).
[Al Quran ; 53:5]

ذُو مِرَّةٍ فَاسْتَوَىٰ (6)

Possessor of wisdom; and he appeared in his form.
[Al Quran ; 53:6]

وَهُوَ بِالْأُفُقِ الْأَعْلَىٰ (7)

While he was in the higher horizon.
[Al Quran ; 53:7]

ثُمَّ دَنَا فَتَدَلَّىٰ (8)

Then he drew near and came down.
[Al Quran ; 53:8]

فَكَانَ قَابَ قَوْسَيْنِ أَوْ أَدْنَىٰ (9)

And he was at a distance of two bows or less.
[Al Quran ; 53:9]

فَأَوْحَىٰ إِلَىٰ عَبْدِهِ مَا أَوْحَىٰ (10)

And He revealed to His servant what He revealed.
[Al Quran ; 53:10]

مَا كَذَبَ الْفُؤَادُ مَا رَأَىٰ (11)

The heart did not lie (about) what he saw.
[Al Quran ; 53:11]

أَفَتُمَارُونَهُ عَلَىٰ مَا يَرَىٰ (12)

So will you dispute with him over what he saw?
[Al Quran ; 53:12]

وَلَقَدْ رَآهُ نَزْلَةً أُخْرَىٰ (13)

And he certainly saw him in another descent.
[Al Quran ; 53:13]

عِنْدَ سِدْرَةِ الْمُنْتَهَىٰ (14)

At the lote tree of the utmost boundary.
[Al Quran ; 53:14]

عِنْدَهَا جَنَّةُ الْمَأْوَىٰ (15)

Near it is the garden of refuge.
[Al Quran ; 53:15]

إِذْ يَغْشَى السِّدْرَةَ مَا يَغْشَىٰ (16)

When there covered the lote tree that which covered.
[Al Quran ; 53:16]

مَا زَاغَ الْبَصَرُ وَمَا طَغَىٰ (17)

The vision (of the messenger) did not swerve, nor did it transgress.
[Al Quran ; 53:17]

لَقَدْ رَأَىٰ مِنْ آيَاتِ رَبِّهِ الْكُبْرَىٰ (18)

He certainly saw of the greatest signs of his Lord.
[Al Quran ; 53:18]

أَفَرَأَيْتُمُ اللَّاتَ وَالْعُزَّىٰ (19)

So have you seen al-Lat and al-Uzza?
[Al Quran ; 53:19]

وَمَنَاةَ الثَّالِثَةَ الْأُخْرَىٰ (20)

And Manat, the third, the other one?
[Al Quran ; 53:20]

أَلَكُمُ الذَّكَرُ وَلَهُ الْأُنْثَىٰ (21)

Is for you the male and for Him the female?
[Al Quran ; 53:21]

تِلْكَ إِذًا قِسْمَةٌ ضِيزَىٰ (22)

That is then an unjust division.
[Al Quran ; 53:22]

إِنْ هِيَ إِلَّا أَسْمَاءٌ سَمَّيْتُمُوهَا أَنْتُمْ وَآبَاؤُكُمْ مَا أَنْزَلَ اللَّهُ بِهَا مِنْ سُلْطَانٍ ۚ إِنْ يَتَّبِعُونَ إِلَّا الظَّنَّ وَمَا تَهْوَى الْأَنْفُسُ ۖ وَلَقَدْ جَاءَهُمْ مِنْ رَبِّهِمُ الْهُدَىٰ (23)

Indeed, they are only names which you have named, you and your fathers; for which Allah has not sent down any authority. They only follow conjecture and what (their) souls desire; and there has certainly come to them from their Lord guidance.
[Al Quran ; 53:23]

أَمْ لِلْإِنْسَانِ مَا تَمَنَّىٰ (24)

Or is there for the human whatever he wishes?
[Al Quran ; 53:24]

فَلِلَّهِ الْآخِرَةُ وَالْأُولَىٰ (25)

And to Allah belong the hereafter and the first (life).
[Al Quran ; 53:25]

وَكَمْ مِنْ مَلَكٍ فِي السَّمَاوَاتِ لَا تُغْنِي شَفَاعَتُهُمْ شَيْئًا إِلَّا مِنْ بَعْدِ أَنْ يَأْذَنَ اللَّهُ لِمَنْ يَشَاءُ وَيَرْضَىٰ (26)

And how many angels are there in the heavens whose intercessions will not avail anything except after Allah has given permission to whom He wills and approves.
[Al Quran ; 53:26]

إِنَّ الَّذِينَ لَا يُؤْمِنُونَ بِالْآخِرَةِ لَيُسَمُّونَ الْمَلَائِكَةَ تَسْمِيَةَ الْأُنْثَىٰ (27)

Indeed those who do not believe in the hereafter name the angels with female names.
[Al Quran ; 53:27]

وَمَا لَهُمْ بِهِ مِنْ عِلْمٍ ۖ إِنْ يَتَّبِعُونَ إِلَّا الظَّنَّ ۖ وَإِنَّ الظَّنَّ لَا يُغْنِي مِنَ الْحَقِّ شَيْئًا (28)

And they have thereof no knowledge, they only follow conjecture. And indeed, conjecture does not avail against the truth anything.
[Al Quran ; 53:28]

فَأَعْرِضْ عَنْ مَنْ تَوَلَّىٰ عَنْ ذِكْرِنَا وَلَمْ يُرِدْ إِلَّا الْحَيَاةَ الدُّنْيَا (29)

So turn away from one who turns away from Our reminder and does not desire except the life of this world.
[Al Quran ; 53:29]

ذَٰلِكَ مَبْلَغُهُمْ مِنَ الْعِلْمِ ۚ إِنَّ رَبَّكَ هُوَ أَعْلَمُ بِمَنْ ضَلَّ عَنْ سَبِيلِهِ وَهُوَ أَعْلَمُ بِمَنِ اهْتَدَىٰ (30)

That is their upmost of knowledge. Indeed, your Lord is most Knowing who strays from His way, and He is most Knowing who is guided.

Al-Najm (The Star)

Translation

Verses 31-62

وَلِلَّهِ مَا فِي السَّمَاوَاتِ وَمَا فِي الْأَرْضِ لِيَجْزِيَ الَّذِينَ أَسَاءُوا بِمَا عَمِلُوا وَيَجْزِيَ الَّذِينَ أَحْسَنُوا بِالْحُسْنَى (31)

And to Allah belongs whatever is in the heavens and whatever is in the earth, that He may reward those who did evil for what they have done and reward those who did well with the best.
[Al Quran ; 53:31]

الَّذِينَ يَجْتَنِبُونَ كَبَائِرَ الْإِثْمِ وَالْفَوَاحِشَ إِلَّا اللَّمَمَ ۚ إِنَّ رَبَّكَ وَاسِعُ الْمَغْفِرَةِ ۚ هُوَ أَعْلَمُ بِكُمْ إِذْ أَنْشَأَكُمْ مِنَ الْأَرْضِ وَإِذْ أَنْتُمْ أَجِنَّةٌ فِي بُطُونِ أُمَّهَاتِكُمْ ۖ فَلَا تُزَكُّوا أَنْفُسَكُمْ ۖ هُوَ أَعْلَمُ بِمَنِ اتَّقَىٰ (32)

Those who avoid major sins and indecencies except minor sins; indeed, your Lord is vast in forgiveness. He is most Knowing of you when He constructed you from the earth and when you were embryos in the bellies of your mothers; so do not claim yourself to be pure; He is most Knowing who fears (Him).
[Al Quran ; 53:32]

أَفَرَأَيْتَ الَّذِي تَوَلَّىٰ (33)

Have you seen the one who turned away?
[Al Quran ; 53:33]

وَأَعْطَىٰ قَلِيلًا وَأَكْدَىٰ (34)

And gave a little and refrained.
[Al Quran ; 53:34]

أَعِنْدَهُ عِلْمُ الْغَيْبِ فَهُوَ يَرَىٰ (35)

Does he have the knowledge of the unseen, so he sees?
[Al Quran ; 53:35]

أَمْ لَمْ يُنَبَّأْ بِمَا فِي صُحُفِ مُوسَىٰ (36)

Or, has he not been informed of what is in the scriptures of Musa?
[Al Quran ; 53:36]

وَإِبْرَاهِيمَ الَّذِي وَفَّىٰ (37)

And Ibrahim who fulfilled.
[Al Quran ; 53:37]

أَلَّا تَزِرُ وَازِرَةٌ وِزْرَ أُخْرَىٰ (38)

That a sin does not bear the burden of another.
[Al Quran ; 53:38]

وَأَنْ لَيْسَ لِلْإِنْسَانِ إِلَّا مَا سَعَىٰ (39)

And that there will not be for the human except that for which he made effort.
[Al Quran ; 53:39]

وَأَنَّ سَعْيَهُ سَوْفَ يُرَىٰ (40)

And that his effort will be seen.
[Al Quran ; 53:40]

ثُمَّ يُجْزَاهُ الْجَزَاءَ الْأَوْفَىٰ (41)

Then he will be rewarded for it with the fullest reward.
[Al Quran ; 53:41]

وَأَنَّ إِلَىٰ رَبِّكَ الْمُنْتَهَىٰ (42)

And indeed, to your Lord is the end.
[Al Quran ; 53:42]

وَأَنَّهُ هُوَ أَضْحَكَ وَأَبْكَىٰ (43)

And it is He Who makes (one) laugh and cry.
[Al Quran ; 53:43]

وَأَنَّهُ هُوَ أَمَاتَ وَأَحْيَا (44)

And it is He Who causes death and gives life.
[Al Quran ; 53:44]

وَأَنَّهُ خَلَقَ الزَّوْجَيْنِ الذَّكَرَ وَالْأُنْثَىٰ (45)

And indeed, He created the two mates, the male and the female.
[Al Quran ; 53:45]

مِنْ نُطْفَةٍ إِذَا تُمْنَىٰ (46)

From a sperm-drop when it is emitted.
[Al Quran ; 53:46]

وَأَنَّ عَلَيْهِ النَّشْأَةَ الْأُخْرَىٰ (47)

And upon Him is the other establishment.
[Al Quran ; 53:47]

وَأَنَّهُ هُوَ أَغْنَىٰ وَأَقْنَىٰ (48)

And it is He Who enriches and suffices.
[Al Quran ; 53:48]

وَأَنَّهُ هُوَ رَبُّ الشِّعْرَىٰ (49)

And it is He who is the Lord of the Sirius.
[Al Quran ; 53:49]

وَأَنَّهُ أَهْلَكَ عَادًا الْأُولَىٰ (50)

And it is He Who destroyed the former Aad.
[Al Quran ; 53:50]

وَثَمُودَ فَمَا أَبْقَىٰ (51)

And Thamud, and He did not spare.
[Al Quran ; 53:51]

وَقَوْمَ نُوحٍ مِنْ قَبْلُ ۖ إِنَّهُمْ كَانُوا هُمْ أَظْلَمَ وَأَطْغَىٰ (52)

And the people of Nuh before; indeed, they were more unjust and oppressing.
[Al Quran ; 53:52]

وَالْمُؤْتَفِكَةَ أَهْوَىٰ (53)

And the overturned villages that He destroyed.
[Al Quran ; 53:53]

فَغَشَّاهَا مَا غَشَّىٰ (54)

And covered them by that which covered.
[Al Quran ; 53:54]

فَبِأَيِّ آلَاءِ رَبِّكَ تَتَمَارَىٰ (55)

So which of the favours of your Lord do you doubt?
[Al Quran ; 53:55]

هَٰذَا نَذِيرٌ مِنَ النُّذُرِ الْأُولَىٰ (56)

This is a warner from the former warners.
[Al Quran ; 53:56]

أَزِفَتِ الْآزِفَةُ (57)

The approaching event has approached.
[Al Quran ; 53:57]

لَيْسَ لَهَا مِنْ دُونِ اللَّهِ كَاشِفَةٌ (58)

Of it, there will not be a remover other than Allah.
[Al Quran ; 53:58]

أَفَمِنْ هَٰذَا الْحَدِيثِ تَعْجَبُونَ (59)

So, at this hadith (Quran) do you wonder?
[Al Quran ; 53:59]

وَتَضْحَكُونَ وَلَا تَبْكُونَ (60)

And you laugh and do not cry.
[Al Quran ; 53:60]

وَأَنْتُمْ سَامِدُونَ (61)

While you are amusing yourselves.
[Al Quran ; 53:61]

فَاسْجُدُوا لِلَّهِ وَاعْبُدُوا (62)

So prostrate to Allah and worship (Him).
[Al Quran ; 53:62]
