Al-Saffat (Those Lined Up)
Translation
Verses 1-40
بِسْمِ اللّهِ الرَّحْمَنِ الرَّحِيمِ
In the name of Allah, the Compassionate, the Merciful.
وَالصَّافَّاتِ صَفًّا (1)
By those (angels) lined up in rows.
[Al Quran ; 37:1]
فَالزَّاجِرَاتِ زَجْرًا (2)
And those who drive in reproof.
[Al Quran ; 37:2]
فَالتَّالِيَاتِ ذِكْرًا (3)
And those who recite the reminder.
[Al Quran ; 37:3]
إِنَّ إِلَٰهَكُمْ لَوَاحِدٌ (4)
Indeed, your God is One.
[Al Quran ; 37:4]
رَبُّ السَّمَاوَاتِ وَالْأَرْضِ وَمَا بَيْنَهُمَا وَرَبُّ الْمَشَارِقِ (5)
Lord of the heavens and the earth and what is between them and Lord of the sunrises.
[Al Quran ; 37:5]
إِنَّا زَيَّنَّا السَّمَاءَ الدُّنْيَا بِزِينَةٍ الْكَوَاكِبِ (6)
Indeed, We have decorated the lowest sky with the adornment of the planets.
[Al Quran ; 37:6]
وَحِفْظًا مِنْ كُلِّ شَيْطَانٍ مَارِدٍ (7)
And protected it from every rebellious devil.
[Al Quran ; 37:7]
لَا يَسَّمَّعُونَ إِلَى الْمَلَإِ الْأَعْلَىٰ وَيُقْذَفُونَ مِنْ كُلِّ جَانِبٍ (8)
They do not hear to the highest chiefs and are pelted from every side.
[Al Quran ; 37:8]
دُحُورًا ۖ وَلَهُمْ عَذَابٌ وَاصِبٌ (9)
Repelled; and for them will be a perpetual torture.
[Al Quran ; 37:9]
إِلَّا مَنْ خَطِفَ الْخَطْفَةَ فَأَتْبَعَهُ شِهَابٌ ثَاقِبٌ (10)
Except one who snatches a snatch, so he is followed by a piercing meteor.
[Al Quran ; 37:10]
فَاسْتَفْتِهِمْ أَهُمْ أَشَدُّ خَلْقًا أَمْ مَنْ خَلَقْنَا ۚ إِنَّا خَلَقْنَاهُمْ مِنْ طِينٍ لَازِبٍ (11)
So ask them whether they are stronger in creation or those whom We have created? Indeed, We created them of sticky clay.
[Al Quran ; 37:11]
بَلْ عَجِبْتَ وَيَسْخَرُونَ (12)
Rather, you wonder and they mock.
[Al Quran ; 37:12]
وَإِذَا ذُكِّرُوا لَا يَذْكُرُونَ (13)
And when they are reminded, they remember not.
[Al Quran ; 37:13]
وَإِذَا رَأَوْا آيَةً يَسْتَسْخِرُونَ (14)
And when they see a sign, they mock (it).
[Al Quran ; 37:14]
وَقَالُوا إِنْ هَٰذَا إِلَّا سِحْرٌ مُبِينٌ (15)
And they say: Indeed, this is only an obvious magic.
[Al Quran ; 37:15]
أَإِذَا مِتْنَا وَكُنَّا تُرَابًا وَعِظَامًا أَإِنَّا لَمَبْعُوثُونَ (16)
When we have died and become dust and bones, will we be resurrected?
[Al Quran ; 37:16]
أَوَآبَاؤُنَا الْأَوَّلُونَ (17)
And our former father?
[Al Quran ; 37:17]
قُلْ نَعَمْ وَأَنْتُمْ دَاخِرُونَ (18)
Say: Yes, and you will be brought low.
[Al Quran ; 37:18]
فَإِنَّمَا هِيَ زَجْرَةٌ وَاحِدَةٌ فَإِذَا هُمْ يَنْظُرُونَ (19)
And indeed, it will only be one loud shout, and at once they will be looking.
[Al Quran ; 37:19]
وَقَالُوا يَا وَيْلَنَا هَٰذَا يَوْمُ الدِّينِ (20)
And they will say: O woe to us! This is the day of recompense.
[Al Quran ; 37:20]
هَٰذَا يَوْمُ الْفَصْلِ الَّذِي كُنْتُمْ بِهِ تُكَذِّبُونَ (21)
This is the day of separation which you used to deny.
[Al Quran ; 37:21]
احْشُرُوا الَّذِينَ ظَلَمُوا وَأَزْوَاجَهُمْ وَمَا كَانُوا يَعْبُدُونَ (22)
Gather those who did injustice and their likes and what they used to worship.
[Al Quran ; 37:22]
مِنْ دُونِ اللَّهِ فَاهْدُوهُمْ إِلَىٰ صِرَاطِ الْجَحِيمِ (23)
Other than Allah, and guide them to the path of the hellfire.
[Al Quran ; 37:23]
وَقِفُوهُمْ ۖ إِنَّهُمْ مَسْئُولُونَ (24)
And make them stand. Indeed, they are to be questioned.
[Al Quran ; 37:24]
مَا لَكُمْ لَا تَنَاصَرُونَ (25)
Why you do not help each other?
[Al Quran ; 37:25]
بَلْ هُمُ الْيَوْمَ مُسْتَسْلِمُونَ (26)
Rather they will be that day, surrendering.
[Al Quran ; 37:26]
وَأَقْبَلَ بَعْضُهُمْ عَلَىٰ بَعْضٍ يَتَسَاءَلُونَ (27)
And they will approach one another asking themselves.
[Al Quran ; 37:27]
قَالُوا إِنَّكُمْ كُنْتُمْ تَأْتُونَنَا عَنِ الْيَمِينِ (28)
They will say: Indeed, you used to come to us from the right.
[Al Quran ; 37:28]
قَالُوا بَلْ لَمْ تَكُونُوا مُؤْمِنِينَ (29)
They said: Rather you were not believers.
[Al Quran ; 37:29]
وَمَا كَانَ لَنَا عَلَيْكُمْ مِنْ سُلْطَانٍ ۖ بَلْ كُنْتُمْ قَوْمًا طَاغِينَ (30)
And we had over you no authority, rather you were a transgressing people.
[Al Quran ; 37:30]
فَحَقَّ عَلَيْنَا قَوْلُ رَبِّنَا ۖ إِنَّا لَذَائِقُونَ (31)
So the saying of our Lord is justified upon us; indeed, we are going to taste (the torture).
[Al Quran ; 37:31]
فَأَغْوَيْنَاكُمْ إِنَّا كُنَّا غَاوِينَ (32)
And we misled you; indeed, we were misleaders.
[Al Quran ; 37:32]
فَإِنَّهُمْ يَوْمَئِذٍ فِي الْعَذَابِ مُشْتَرِكُونَ (33)
And indeed, they will be, on that day, in the torture, partners.
[Al Quran ; 37:33]
إِنَّا كَذَٰلِكَ نَفْعَلُ بِالْمُجْرِمِينَ (34)
Indeed, that is how We deal with the criminals.
[Al Quran ; 37:34]
إِنَّهُمْ كَانُوا إِذَا قِيلَ لَهُمْ لَا إِلَٰهَ إِلَّا اللَّهُ يَسْتَكْبِرُونَ (35)
Indeed, they were, when it was said to them, there is no god except Allah, they were arrogant.
[Al Quran ; 37:35]
وَيَقُولُونَ أَئِنَّا لَتَارِكُو آلِهَتِنَا لِشَاعِرٍ مَجْنُونٍ (36)
And they were saying: Are we to leave our gods for a mad poet?
[Al Quran ; 37:36]
بَلْ جَاءَ بِالْحَقِّ وَصَدَّقَ الْمُرْسَلِينَ (37)
Rather, he has come with the truth and confirmed the (previous) messengers.
[Al Quran ; 37:37]
إِنَّكُمْ لَذَائِقُو الْعَذَابِ الْأَلِيمِ (38)
Indeed, you are going to taste the painful torture.
[Al Quran ; 37:38]
وَمَا تُجْزَوْنَ إِلَّا مَا كُنْتُمْ تَعْمَلُونَ (39)
And you will not be rewarded except for what you used to do.
[Al Quran ; 37:39]
إِلَّا عِبَادَ اللَّهِ الْمُخْلَصِينَ (40
Except the devote servants of Allah.
