Al-Waqea (The Event)

Translation

Verses 1-48

بِسْمِ اللّهِ الرَّحْمَنِ الرَّحِيمِ

In the name of Allah, the Compassionate, the Merciful.

إِذَا وَقَعَتِ الْوَاقِعَةُ (1)

When the event occurs.
[Al Quran ; 56:1]

لَيْسَ لِوَقْعَتِهَا كَاذِبَةٌ (2)

There is not for its occurrence any lie.
[Al Quran ; 56:2]

خَافِضَةٌ رَافِعَةٌ (3)

Bringing down and raising up (the people).
[Al Quran ; 56:3]

إِذَا رُجَّتِ الْأَرْضُ رَجًّا (4)

When the earth is shaken with shaking.
[Al Quran ; 56:4]

وَبُسَّتِ الْجِبَالُ بَسًّا (5)

And the mountains are crumbled with crumble.
[Al Quran ; 56:5]

فَكَانَتْ هَبَاءً مُنْبَثًّا (6)

And become dust dispersing.
[Al Quran ; 56:6]

وَكُنْتُمْ أَزْوَاجًا ثَلَاثَةً (7)

And you will become three kinds.
[Al Quran ; 56:7]

فَأَصْحَابُ الْمَيْمَنَةِ مَا أَصْحَابُ الْمَيْمَنَةِ (8)

Then the companions of the right; what are the companions of the right?
[Al Quran ; 56:8]

وَأَصْحَابُ الْمَشْأَمَةِ مَا أَصْحَابُ الْمَشْأَمَةِ (9)

And the companions of the left; what are the companions of the left?
[Al Quran ; 56:9]

وَالسَّابِقُونَ السَّابِقُونَ (10)

And the foremost, the foremost.
[Al Quran ; 56:10]

أُولَٰئِكَ الْمُقَرَّبُونَ (11)

It is them who will be brought near (to Allah).
[Al Quran ; 56:11]

فِي جَنَّاتِ النَّعِيمِ (12)

In the gardens of pleasure.
[Al Quran ; 56:12]

ثُلَّةٌ مِنَ الْأَوَّلِينَ (13)

Many of the former (people).
[Al Quran ; 56:13]

وَقَلِيلٌ مِنَ الْآخِرِينَ (14)

And a few of the later (people).
[Al Quran ; 56:14]

عَلَىٰ سُرُرٍ مَوْضُونَةٍ (15)

On woven couches.
[Al Quran ; 56:15]

مُتَّكِئِينَ عَلَيْهَا مُتَقَابِلِينَ (16)

Reclining on them, facing each other.
[Al Quran ; 56:16]

يَطُوفُ عَلَيْهِمْ وِلْدَانٌ مُخَلَّدُونَ (17)

There will circulate among them boys made eternal.
[Al Quran ; 56:17]

بِأَكْوَابٍ وَأَبَارِيقَ وَكَأْسٍ مِنْ مَعِينٍ (18)

With cups and pitchers and a glass filled from a flowing spring.
[Al Quran ; 56:18]

لَا يُصَدَّعُونَ عَنْهَا وَلَا يُنْزِفُونَ (19)

No headache will they have therefrom, nor will they be intoxicated.
[Al Quran ; 56:19]

وَفَاكِهَةٍ مِمَّا يَتَخَيَّرُونَ (20)

And fruit of whatever they choose.
[Al Quran ; 56:20]

وَلَحْمِ طَيْرٍ مِمَّا يَشْتَهُونَ (21)

And the meat of fowl, from whatever they desire.
[Al Quran ; 56:21]

وَحُورٌ عِينٌ (22)

And beautiful women.
[Al Quran ; 56:22]

كَأَمْثَالِ اللُّؤْلُؤِ الْمَكْنُونِ (23)

The likeness of well-kept pearl.
[Al Quran ; 56:23]

جَزَاءً بِمَا كَانُوا يَعْمَلُونَ (24)

A reward for what they used to do.
[Al Quran ; 56:24]

لَا يَسْمَعُونَ فِيهَا لَغْوًا وَلَا تَأْثِيمًا (25)

They will not hear therein vain talk or sin.
[Al Quran ; 56:25]

إِلَّا قِيلًا سَلَامًا سَلَامًا (26)

Except a saying: Peace, peace.
[Al Quran ; 56:26]

وَأَصْحَابُ الْيَمِينِ مَا أَصْحَابُ الْيَمِينِ (27)

And the companions of the right; what are the companions of the right?
[Al Quran ; 56:27]

فِي سِدْرٍ مَخْضُودٍ (28)

Among thornless lote trees.
[Al Quran ; 56:28]

وَطَلْحٍ مَنْضُودٍ (29)

And layered banana trees.
[Al Quran ; 56:29]

وَظِلٍّ مَمْدُودٍ (30)

And extended shade.
[Al Quran ; 56:30]

وَمَاءٍ مَسْكُوبٍ (31)

And poured water.
[Al Quran ; 56:31]

وَفَاكِهَةٍ كَثِيرَةٍ (32)

And plenty of fruit.
[Al Quran ; 56:32]

لَا مَقْطُوعَةٍ وَلَا مَمْنُوعَةٍ (33)

Neither cut off nor forbidden.
[Al Quran ; 56:33]

وَفُرُشٍ مَرْفُوعَةٍ (34)

And elevated beds.
[Al Quran ; 56:34]

إِنَّا أَنْشَأْنَاهُنَّ إِنْشَاءً (35)

Indeed, We have established them with establishment.
[Al Quran ; 56:35]

فَجَعَلْنَاهُنَّ أَبْكَارًا (36)

And We made them virgins.
[Al Quran ; 56:36]

عُرُبًا أَتْرَابًا (37)

Devoted and of equal age.
[Al Quran ; 56:37]

لِأَصْحَابِ الْيَمِينِ (38)

For the companions of the right.
[Al Quran ; 56:38]

ثُلَّةٌ مِنَ الْأَوَّلِينَ (39)

Many of the former (people).
[Al Quran ; 56:39]

وَثُلَّةٌ مِنَ الْآخِرِينَ (40)

And many of the later (people).
[Al Quran ; 56:40]

وَأَصْحَابُ الشِّمَالِ مَا أَصْحَابُ الشِّمَالِ (41)

And the companions of the left; and what are the companions of the left?
[Al Quran ; 56:41]

فِي سَمُومٍ وَحَمِيمٍ (42)

In scorching fire and boiling water.
[Al Quran ; 56:42]

وَظِلٍّ مِنْ يَحْمُومٍ (43)

And a shade of black smoke.
[Al Quran ; 56:43]

لَا بَارِدٍ وَلَا كَرِيمٍ (44)

Neither cold nor honouring.
[Al Quran ; 56:44]

إِنَّهُمْ كَانُوا قَبْلَ ذَٰلِكَ مُتْرَفِينَ (45)

Indeed, they were before that indulging in affluence.
[Al Quran ; 56:45]

وَكَانُوا يُصِرُّونَ عَلَى الْحِنْثِ الْعَظِيمِ (46)

And they used to persist upon the great crime.
[Al Quran ; 56:46]

وَكَانُوا يَقُولُونَ أَئِذَا مِتْنَا وَكُنَّا تُرَابًا وَعِظَامًا أَإِنَّا لَمَبْعُوثُونَ (47)

And they used to say: When we die and become dust and bones, are we indeed to be resurrected?
[Al Quran ; 56:47]

أَوَآبَاؤُنَا الْأَوَّلُونَ (48)

Or our former fathers?
[Al Quran ; 56:48]

Al-Waqea (The Event)

Translation

Verses 49-96

قُلْ إِنَّ الْأَوَّلِينَ وَالْآخِرِينَ (49)

Say: Indeed, the former and the later (people).
[Al Quran ; 56:49]

لَمَجْمُوعُونَ إِلَىٰ مِيقَاتِ يَوْمٍ مَعْلُومٍ (50)

Are to be gathered for a time of a known day.
[Al Quran ; 56:50]

ثُمَّ إِنَّكُمْ أَيُّهَا الضَّالُّونَ الْمُكَذِّبُونَ (51)

Then indeed you, O misguided people, the deniers.
[Al Quran ; 56:51]

لَآكِلُونَ مِنْ شَجَرٍ مِنْ زَقُّومٍ (52)

Are to be eating from trees of Zaqqum.
[Al Quran ; 56:52]

فَمَالِئُونَ مِنْهَا الْبُطُونَ (53)

And filling with it the bellies.
[Al Quran ; 56:53]

فَشَارِبُونَ عَلَيْهِ مِنَ الْحَمِيمِ (54)

And drinking on top of it from boiling water.
[Al Quran ; 56:54]

فَشَارِبُونَ شُرْبَ الْهِيمِ (55)

And you will drink as the drinking of the camels.
[Al Quran ; 56:55]

هَٰذَا نُزُلُهُمْ يَوْمَ الدِّينِ (56)

This is their accommodation on the day of recompense.
[Al Quran ; 56:56]

نَحْنُ خَلَقْنَاكُمْ فَلَوْلَا تُصَدِّقُونَ (57)

We created you, so will you not believe?
[Al Quran ; 56:57]

أَفَرَأَيْتُمْ مَا تُمْنُونَ (58)

Have you seen that which you emit?
[Al Quran ; 56:58]

أَأَنْتُمْ تَخْلُقُونَهُ أَمْ نَحْنُ الْخَالِقُونَ (59)

Is it you who creates it, or are We the Creators?
[Al Quran ; 56:59]

نَحْنُ قَدَّرْنَا بَيْنَكُمُ الْمَوْتَ وَمَا نَحْنُ بِمَسْبُوقِينَ (60)

We have ordained among you death, and We are not to be preceded.
[Al Quran ; 56:60]

عَلَىٰ أَنْ نُبَدِّلَ أَمْثَالَكُمْ وَنُنْشِئَكُمْ فِي مَا لَا تَعْلَمُونَ (61)

That We may change your likeness and establish you in that which you do not know.
[Al Quran ; 56:61]

وَلَقَدْ عَلِمْتُمُ النَّشْأَةَ الْأُولَىٰ فَلَوْلَا تَذَكَّرُونَ (62)

And you have certainly known the first establishment, so will you not remember?
[Al Quran ; 56:62]

أَفَرَأَيْتُمْ مَا تَحْرُثُونَ (63)

Have you seen that which you sow?
[Al Quran ; 56:63]

أَأَنْتُمْ تَزْرَعُونَهُ أَمْ نَحْنُ الزَّارِعُونَ (64)

Is it you who makes it grow, or are We the Growers?
[Al Quran ; 56:64]

لَوْ نَشَاءُ لَجَعَلْنَاهُ حُطَامًا فَظَلْتُمْ تَفَكَّهُونَ (65)

If We willed, We could make it debris, and you would remain in wonder.
[Al Quran ; 56:65]

إِنَّا لَمُغْرَمُونَ (66)

(Saying:) Indeed, we are in debt.
[Al Quran ; 56:66]

بَلْ نَحْنُ مَحْرُومُونَ (67)

Rather, we are deprived.
[Al Quran ; 56:67]

أَفَرَأَيْتُمُ الْمَاءَ الَّذِي تَشْرَبُونَ (68)

Have you seen the water which you drink?
[Al Quran ; 56:68]

أَأَنْتُمْ أَنْزَلْتُمُوهُ مِنَ الْمُزْنِ أَمْ نَحْنُ الْمُنْزِلُونَ (69)

Is it you who sent it down from the clouds, or are We Who send it down?
[Al Quran ; 56:69]

لَوْ نَشَاءُ جَعَلْنَاهُ أُجَاجًا فَلَوْلَا تَشْكُرُونَ (70)

If We willed, We could make it salty, so why are you not grateful?
[Al Quran ; 56:70]

أَفَرَأَيْتُمُ النَّارَ الَّتِي تُورُونَ (71)

Have you seen the fire which you ignite?
[Al Quran ; 56:71]

أَأَنْتُمْ أَنْشَأْتُمْ شَجَرَتَهَا أَمْ نَحْنُ الْمُنْشِئُونَ (72)

Is it you who established its tree, or are We the Establishers?
[Al Quran ; 56:72]

نَحْنُ جَعَلْنَاهَا تَذْكِرَةً وَمَتَاعًا لِلْمُقْوِينَ (73)

We have made it a reminder and a provision for the travellers.
[Al Quran ; 56:73]

فَسَبِّحْ بِاسْمِ رَبِّكَ الْعَظِيمِ (74)

So glorify with the name of your Lord, the Great.
[Al Quran ; 56:74]

فَلَا أُقْسِمُ بِمَوَاقِعِ النُّجُومِ (75)

And I swear by the positions of the stars.
[Al Quran ; 56:75]

وَإِنَّهُ لَقَسَمٌ لَوْ تَعْلَمُونَ عَظِيمٌ (76)

And indeed, it is an oath, if you could know, great.
[Al Quran ; 56:76]

إِنَّهُ لَقُرْآنٌ كَرِيمٌ (77)

Indeed, it is a noble Quran.
[Al Quran ; 56:77]

فِي كِتَابٍ مَكْنُونٍ (78)

In a well-kept book.
[Al Quran ; 56:78]

لَا يَمَسُّهُ إِلَّا الْمُطَهَّرُونَ (79)

None touch it except the purified.
[Al Quran ; 56:79]

تَنْزِيلٌ مِنْ رَبِّ الْعَالَمِينَ (80)

Descended from the Lord of the worlds.
[Al Quran ; 56:80]

أَفَبِهَٰذَا الْحَدِيثِ أَنْتُمْ مُدْهِنُونَ (81)

So, is it concerning this saying (the Quran) that you are indifferent,
[Al Quran ; 56:81]

وَتَجْعَلُونَ رِزْقَكُمْ أَنَّكُمْ تُكَذِّبُونَ (82)

And make your provision that you deny (the Provider).
[Al Quran ; 56:82]

فَلَوْلَا إِذَا بَلَغَتِ الْحُلْقُومَ (83)

And why when it (the soul) reaches the throat.
[Al Quran ; 56:83]

وَأَنْتُمْ حِينَئِذٍ تَنْظُرُونَ (84)

And you are at that time looking on.
[Al Quran ; 56:84]

وَنَحْنُ أَقْرَبُ إِلَيْهِ مِنْكُمْ وَلَٰكِنْ لَا تُبْصِرُونَ (85)

And We are closer to him than you, but you do not see.
[Al Quran ; 56:85]

فَلَوْلَا إِنْ كُنْتُمْ غَيْرَ مَدِينِينَ (86)

So why do you not, if you are not to be recompensed.
[Al Quran ; 56:86]

تَرْجِعُونَهَا إِنْ كُنْتُمْ صَادِقِينَ (87)

Return it (the soul) back, if you should be truthful?
[Al Quran ; 56:87]

فَأَمَّا إِنْ كَانَ مِنَ الْمُقَرَّبِينَ (88)

And if he was from those brought near (to Allah).
[Al Quran ; 56:88]

فَرَوْحٌ وَرَيْحَانٌ وَجَنَّتُ نَعِيمٍ (89)

Then (for him are) rest and scent and a garden of pleasure.
[Al Quran ; 56:89]

وَأَمَّا إِنْ كَانَ مِنْ أَصْحَابِ الْيَمِينِ (90)

And if he was from the companions of the right.
[Al Quran ; 56:90]

فَسَلَامٌ لَكَ مِنْ أَصْحَابِ الْيَمِينِ (91)

Then peace for you from the (other) companions of the right.
[Al Quran ; 56:91]

وَأَمَّا إِنْ كَانَ مِنَ الْمُكَذِّبِينَ الضَّالِّينَ (92)

And if he was from the deniers, the misguided.
[Al Quran ; 56:92]

فَنُزُلٌ مِنْ حَمِيمٍ (93)

Then (for him is) accommodation of boiling water.
[Al Quran ; 56:93]

وَتَصْلِيَةُ جَحِيمٍ (94)

And the reaching of hellfire.
[Al Quran ; 56:94]

إِنَّ هَٰذَا لَهُوَ حَقُّ الْيَقِينِ (95)

Indeed, this is the true certainty.
[Al Quran ; 56:95]

فَسَبِّحْ بِاسْمِ رَبِّكَ الْعَظِيمِ (96)

So glorify with the name of your Lord, the Great.
[Al Quran ; 56:96]
